Texas

So, things are still going strong out here in Texas.
I ventured out to Stonewall, Fredericksburg, and Luckenbach a few weeks back, which was pretty cool to  see something new. Stonewall is home to LBJ's ranch and gravesite. Real quiet, spread out piece of land. I would love to go back and stick around the ranch for a couple weeks to see what ranch life is really like. Fredericksburg really reminded me of Manasses, VA (minus the civil war relics and battlefield) same small town vibe. Real low key and quiet. I liked it. And Luckenbach... well that place was a trip. I think the last census had the population at like 3 people, I think. Live music every night. Just a few buildings, one serving as a bar, general store and post office (if my memory serves me correctly). Anyhow, enjoy the photos. To see more, check out my FLICKR

Baseball in Texas

It's about that time again!
Get your New Era, foam finger, peanuts, and cracker jacks ready! It's time to start spending your evening at the ballpark. Chris, Andy, and I went out to Dell Diamond for UT vs. Cal, and Express vs. Rangers. It felt good to be back at the diamond watching some baseball. Here's to an exciting summer. Go Halos! (I have to make sure I make it out to Arlington to see Rangers vs. Angels)

Texas Ketchup

The last time I posted about anything Texas was the day after Christmas. We're well into March now, so it's pretty obvious I should add some photos. If you want to see more, you can always take a look at my flickr photostream, which I'm much better at updating regularly.

Photos included:

  • Petra comes to Texas!
  • Random Doomtree shot in Denton
  • Train ride to Fort Worth
  • Downtown Austin
  • Dealey Plaza, Dallas, TX

Thanks for looking!

SXSW

First of all, I really have been lagging on updating this consistently. I guess I just don't feel like my life is exciting enough to keep y'all in the loop, BUT I promise to do better from now on (for the few readers I do have).

So, SXSW was amazing! For those of you who aren't familiar with SX (ahem, Roxie :p), it's a circus of music coming out of every bar downtown, all day long, all week. It's complete insanity.

I tagged along with the Doomtree and Astronautalis crews and captured some photos and videos of how the week unfolded. Andy played 10 shows. Yeah, 10 shows in 4 days and Doomtree had, I think 7 shows in 5 days (including a 2:45 am set)... something like that. I went to almost every show, and was completely exhausted. I don't understand how those dudes performed so heavily, all around the clock.

Anyways, here are some shots from the week. For more, check out my flickr sets HERE

GRIME Issue No. One

I know I've been beating it over the head with a bat all day, but please please please do me a favor and check this out if you haven't already. It's really important to me, so please take 5 minutes to download this and browse through all the great art. I have had this idea for a few years now, so to finally do it, have it out there, and see/hear all the positive reception is has got so far, it's really rewarding.
Thanks to everyone who submitted, everyone who downloaded it, and everyone who passed it on to their friends. I really appreciate it!
Now, if you haven't checked it out yet, what are you waiting for?!
Download it HERE, and then share it on facebook and twitter.

ONE WEEK!

Listen up!
You have one week left to get something together and submit your stuff to GRIME!
If you make art, please participate!
This idea is something that I've been thinking about for years, and it's very important to me. As an artist, you should be pumped about this.

DIY art!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a magazine with my friends and thought, we should have our art in these pages. I have a ton of friends who feel like their art isn’t good enough (and don’t lie, if you’re an artist, you know you deal with that at least once a month). Here’s your chance to show your art to people and realize, it IS good enough.
Don’t know how to get noticed? Don’t know who to send your portfolio to so you can get those opportunities to be seen? Don’t have the courage to show your work to some fancy art director at your favorite magazine?
Don’t worry about it.
Send your art here.
We want it.
We want to show it to the world.
We believe in you. (even if you don’t)

It's Almost Time!

I'm sure I've mentioned this idea to a few of you before, but finally, it's happening!
On February 17th, I will self-publish the first issue of my quarterly art magazine (e-zine for now, until I can afford to print and distribute). Currently, it's still untitled (all the titles I want are already taken), but I'm diligently working to come up with a title and logo (if you want to make some suggestions, fire away!).
This zine will consist of YOUR art.
  • photography
  • writing
  • print making
  • sculpture
  • digital art
  • graffiti
  • drawing
  • graphic design
  • street art
  • painting
  • etc.
  • even videos/short films for the web issues!
Please submit along with:
  • the title of the piece
  • your name
  • your hometown/current city (whichever you prefer)
  • and your website
There is no theme to each issue, just art. If you made it, I want to see it. Photos/scans must be 72dpi, long side set to 1000 pixels. No watermarks please! And you may submit up to 3 pieces if they all are related (belong to a series or are a diptych/triptych already).
Start looking through your archives and prepare something. The deadline to submit is February 7th (you have just about a month, don't wait!) I'll get back to you with an email address to submit to, but in the meantime, tell your friends and make some art! Any other questions, just let me know.
-Ricardo!

Hey Y'all

Greetings from Texas!
I've been hanging out here for just about two weeks now and I'm enjoying myself pretty well. I spent Christmas with my brother Andy and we had a pretty relaxed day. We ate some cookies and cupcakes, watched basketball, football, and some movies. It was pretty laid back and I'm happy I got to spend the holiday with my brother. I hope everyone else had a great Christmas as well, and you're not too mad you didn't get that iPhone you were hoping for (like these kids).
Anyways, here are some photos that I've taken over the past two weeks. Let me know what you think, and if you wanna see more, check out my flickr. Thanks for looking!

Disneyland Stop Motion II

I'm sure you all know that I'm working on a personal stop motion project about Disneyland. I have been going to Disneyland at least twice a week for over a month now and the images have been piling up. So, I decided to take a look at my sequences to see what I need to work on, adjust, go back and shoot, etc. This was a really important step in my process, as now I feel like my goals and objectives are much more clear.
So anyways, here's my first rough cut. I still plan on making many changes, like I said, this is just to gauge where to go from here. Let me know what you think, and please make some suggestions if you have any.
Thanks!
